tilt was approached by Rio Tinto to create an interactive piece showcasing new, futuristic mining technologies alongside company values in order to gain on-boarding from investors, potential new recruits, current employees and the general public.

We created an experience which mapped out a journey through the supply chain, from giant autonomous trucks and mining machinery in the pits to self-directed trains and control systems. The base UI was an explorative horizontal scroller containing several pushpoints leading to a variety of different modules, including navigable 3D blueprints of technologies, motion graphic films, sliders allowing the user to explore the history of mining, data visualisations, editorial pages and simulators allowing the users insight into the innovative 3D control systems used by the engineers.

The aim was for a futuristic, scientific look & feel, portraying Rio Tinto as innovative and technological whilst still ensuring a strong focus on the human element. In order to ensure the technological content was still approachable, we designed the imagery in low-poly 3D, integrating the brand colours and overlaying futuristic HUDs and UI features.
